Over the last couple of decades, Indian casinos have stepped in to satisfy the demand for gambling that has not been served by licensed casinos in the state. Many states still are reluctant to permit them, although the sovereignty of Indian tribes to offer casino gambling on their own land has been recognized federally for quite a while now, and have stepped in to satisfy this demand, and many of these casinos have grown to be among the largest in the world.
Michigan is one of the states which does license casinos now, and have several large non Indian ones, but the Indian casinos here still play a significant role in the gaming market, and the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort in Mount Pleasant is indeed among them.
The Soaring Eagle in fact boasts one of the largest casinos in the country, rivaling anything either Las Vegas or Atlantic City has to offer, in spite of it being in a fairly remote location. People are more than willing to travel here though, even though they often don’t have to.
The Soaring Eagle offers more than gambling though, and the experience in this rural area is as much about a vacation getaway that you happen to be able to get some great gambling in at the same time with, and also get a good taste of Native American culture.
It is operated by the Sagnaw Chippewa Tribal Nation, on their reservation which is located within the small city of Mount Pleasant. It has a population of about 26,000, with about a third of it being residents of the reservation.
The resort has been operating since 1998 and contributes significantly to the economic welfare of the tribe, who have used a lot of the profits for the advancement of their people, and in particular, in recognizing and celebrating their rich heritage.
The Soaring Eagle Experience
The Soaring Eagle provides their visitors with a luxury experience, which starts with the rooms. Even the most modest of rooms here are very well appointed, and offer good value even at their starting price of about $175.
First class rooms offer a king or two queens, a mini fridge, and either a patio or balcony. Superior rooms add a microwave, in room soaking tub, and a fireplace. You can also book a Deluxe Fireplace or a Deluxe Jaccuzzi room, or go for their Premium Suite, with an upgraded bathroom and a separate sitting area.
The 2400 square foot pool here is particularly impressive, with half a million glass tiles imported from Italy, a Douglas Fir ceiling, and underground music and lights.

The casino is certainly the centerpiece of this property and it’s a huge one, with 210,000 square feet of gaming space. This is the largest casino in Michigan and one of the largest in the United States.
It all starts with their massive number of slot machines, and you’ll find way more of them here than you usually see at a casino, and there are only a few casinos in the world with more than the over 4700 they feature here.
With this many machines, you can bet that you will find lots of whatever you want, at either the slot area on the main gaming floor or at their Slot Palace across the street. Both have regular and high limit areas.
Soaring Eagle brings in the latest slot machines available, and also has a wide variety of machines with progressive jackpots.

While slots are certainly king here, they also have 79 gaming tables, offering a good variety of different table games to enjoy. One of the real nice features of this casino is that they offer single zero roulette, rather than the double zero format typically found in American casinos. Single zero reduces the house edge by half, making the game more appealing for players.
They have all of the most popular table games here, including not only roulette but blackjack, craps, Mississippi stud, Ultimate Texas Holdem, Crazy 4 Poker, Four Card Poker, Three Card Poker, Let it Ride, Caribbean Stud, and Money Wheel.
Many of their table games offer progressive jackpots to add even more fun and excitement to playing them. Jackpots on table games run as high as a million dollars.
There’s also a good sized poker room here which has a very player friendly rake cap of $5 on no limit games. This 18 table poker room offers a wide selection of different poker formats, including Texas Holdem, Omaha, Seven Card Stud, Pineapple, Crazy Pineapple, and Razz, as well as multi game formats such as dealer’s choice, HORSE, and more.
Players can also request any game they want at any limit. They have a bad beat jackpot, as well as jackpots for certain hands. They also offer both regular and sit and go tournaments. This is a very good poker room overall as far as casino poker rooms go.
Soaring Eagle also has the largest bingo hall in Michigan, with some pretty big jackpots that run in the thousands of dollars. Bingo here runs from Wednesday through Sunday with morning, afternoon, and evening sessions.
They also have a rewards program where players qualify for one of four frequent player cards, which are Classic, Gold, Platinum, or Diamond. They also have a Hero Card for current or former members of the U.S. Armed Forces, with special perks including a free room every month.
